As Hurricane Irma continues its path of destruction, “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Dolores Catania is counting her blessings that daughter Gabrielle made it safely through the catastrophic storm while in veterinary school on St. Kitts.RELATED: Ramona Singer Worried for Ex-Husband Mario’s Safety as He Braves Hurricane Irma’s Wrath in Florida
“To Gabby’s credit, she’s a scrapper, she’s a farm girl. She rides horses, she delivers cows, that’s what she did in undergrad — Gabby is a tough chick,” the Bravo personality told Page Six Friday of her only daughter, who is studying at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the Caribbean island.
As the deadly hurricane thrashed through the waters earlier this week, Catania and her ex-husband, Frank, wanted to bring Gabrielle home. Unfortunately, the airport had already been shut down.
“Then the panic set in and I didn’t sleep for two days,” Catania recalled. “There’s nothing you can do, Mother Nature is going to take its course. We couldn’t get to her, so we had nothing left but to pray at that point.”
She said her biggest concern was whether her daughter’s building could handle the strength of the hurricane. According to the university’s website, student housing is located on the east side of the campus by the Caribbean Sea.
