Lisa Hochstein Faces Backlash for Tone-Deaf Irma Post

PageSix.com:
Did Lisa Hochstein learn nothing from Louise Linton’s Instagram fail?

The “Real Housewives of Miami” star is facing a storm of criticism after posting a picture of her family grinning in front of a private jet before they escaped from Hurricane Irma.

The tone-deaf shot of Hochstein with her surgeon hubby, Lenny, their son, Logan, 2, and two dogs received a swift backlash from locals.

“What’s up with all of the private jet photos,” Nathan Lieberman, son of South Beach Hotel Group’s Alan and Diane Lieberman, asked on Facebook. “Bragging about how you are leaving a life-threatening situation when some people can’t afford to leave. Who are you people?”

Meanwhile, a Twitter user wrote, “I get evacuating. I don’t however understand their need to be vapid a–holes.”

The debacle has echoes of the one in August when Linton, the wife of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, posted a shot of herself getting off a government jet and boasted about her designer accessories.

But while Linton apologized, Hochstein was unrepentant and posted a response to “all of these ignorant people leaving nasty comments.”

“Although it’s none of your damn business, we were not the only ones in this plane,” she spat, perhaps missing the point. “Every seat was occupied and my son had to sit in my lap. EVERYONE IS POSTING ON [social media] about how they escaped! This happens to be mine and I don’t need to apologize or hide to ANYONE ABOUT HOW WE DO SO.”

Lisa Hochstein Talks Celebrating Her 1st Mother's Day

Enstarz.com:
Lisa Hochstein had a 'very special' Mother's Day.

Lisa Hochstein celebrated her very fist Mother's Day on Sunday.

After struggling with infertility for years, the Real Housewives of Miami star welcomed her first child, son Logan, via surrogate, last summer, and over the weekend, she celebrated being a parent with her husband, Lenny Hochstein, and their 10-month-old baby boy.

"It was very special. I waited so long to celebrate this day," Hochstein told The Daily Dish of her Mother's Day celebrations. "[My husband Lenny] catered to me all day long. Breakfast in bed, a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a special Mother's Day cake, lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, and a beautiful pink handbag. He has great taste. The best part of the day was, of course, spending it with my two favorite guys in the world."

"I feel like it's Mother's Day every day around here. Lenny (and Logan) treat me like a princess everyday," she continued. "I'm a lucky girl."

Since becoming a parent last year, Hochstein said she's changed for the better.

"I feel like my life has much more purpose and meaning. I'm more focused, and strive to be better at everything everyday for him. Things that mattered before, seem so silly now. He's such a happy and pleasant baby. He was worth the wait," she explained. "I'm much more calm, better organized, for starters. I'm much more carefree and relaxed when it comes to my appearance or anything to do with me. It's refreshing how motherhood changes someone. It's all about Logan now. I'm a better person all around."

Alexia Echevarria Separates From Husband Herman After 15 Years of Marriage

USmagazine.com:
It’s over. Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Echevarria and her husband Herman Echevarria have decided to separate after 15 years of marriage, a source close to the Bravo star confirms exclusively to Us Weekly.

According to the insider, the Venue magazine founders have been separated for a few months now, and had been struggling with serious issues for a couple of years.

Despite their differences, the now-exes, who are currently living separately, will continue to run Venue magazine together. According to the source, Herman will remain a big presence in the lives of Alexia’s sons from her first marriage, Peter and Frankie. (Alexia was was previously married to drug felon Pedro Luis Rosello, who was sentenced to 24 years in federal prison after being part of one of the largest cocaine smuggling operations in the 1980s.)

However, there’s no chance of reconciliation. The insider tells Us that Alexia has contacted her attorney and will be filing for divorce.

The self-proclaimed Cuban Barbie opened up about her marriage to Herman in a 2013 Bravo blog post, crediting the businessman for serving as a father figure to her two sons, whom she shares with Rosello.

“It’s uncomfortable to have to speak about my ex-husband, the biological father of my children, after we have been legally divorced for over 17 years,” she explained to fans after drama about her past marriage aired on the Bravo reality show two years ago. “As you all know, I've been happily married to Herman for the last 13 years. Peter and Frankie have always lived with me and Herman,” she explained of her situation. “[They] have been blessed with having two fathers in their lives.”

Lisa Hochstein Ecstatic About Expecting a Baby Via Surrogate: "We Almost Lost Hope"

EOnline.com:
During her time on Real Housewives of Miami, Lisa Hochstein was always trying to make the impossible, possible.

Whether it was making girls' trips peaceful or having enemies turn into friends, the Bravo star tried her best to be the peacekeeper of the group.

But through all the dramatic moments in Miami, Lisa had one extra special wish she couldn't help but remain focused on: She really wanted a child of her own.

To our delight, E! News can confirm the reality star is expecting a baby via surrogate and the due date is closer than you may think.

"She is four months [or] 16 weeks so we are due Aug. 1," Lisa shared with E! News exclusively. "We should know [the sex] soon. It almost doesn't seem real. We had almost lost hope."

During her time on Real Housewives of Miami, Lisa and her plastic surgeon husband Lenny Hochstein allowed cameras to document emotional doctor visits and even IVF treatments.

"It was so frustrating and depressing," she explained when reliving failed attempts. "Now, we're just so ecstatic. It's our biological child. 100 percent ours. We're simply using a surrogate to carry it. It's like a nine-month sleepover."

While the couple eagerly waits for their newest family member, both Lisa and Lenny are already planning their child's new home. Their house on Star Island was torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. And today, it's bigger and better than ever for a little baby.
"There's plenty of room for one nursery and hopefully more," she explained. "My closet is going to be out of this world. I've actually made an entrance so I can go from my closet straight to the nursery."

And while the future of Real Housewives of Miami still remains a giant question mark, Lisa is open to sharing her personal life with cameras once again.

"Never say never," she shared with E! News. "I'm just happy if my doing the show helped other women deal with their fertility struggles. That's the most rewarding part."

Lisa Hochstein Expecting Via Surrogate After Long Infertility Struggle

USmagazine.com:
Time to celebrate! After years of struggling to conceive, Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein is finally going to be a mother. The Bravo reality star and her plastic surgeon husband Lenny Hochstein are expecting their first child via a surrogate, Lisa confirms exclusively to Us Weekly.

As fans of the series know, the couple’s happy news comes after three miscarriages and four failed IVF attempts.

“It did not feel real, almost unbelievable!” the petite Housewife, 32, tells Us of learning they were finally expecting. “Although I was beyond excited and overjoyed, we did not want to get our hopes up too high until we passed the first trimester.”

After struggling to conceive for years, and documenting some of the painful process on seasons two and three of the Bravo show, Lisa explains they considered this latest round their “last resort.”

“We felt that we tried almost every option available to us except surrogacy,” she explains. “Adoption was a consideration if this didn’t work.”

Even with a baby on the way, the mom-to-be admits that it “was a difficult decision” to choose the surrogate route. “Hopefully in the future I will have this opportunity,” she tells Us of becoming pregnant herself.

Is ‘Real Housewives Of Miami’ On The Chopping Block?

RadarOnline.com:
Is it or isn’t it? That’s the question when we think about whether or not the Real Housewives of Miami will be returning.

After a picture of Alexia Echevarria, Lisa Hochstein, Adrianna de Moura, and Marysol Patton hit the Internet, there were reports that the show would in fact be returning, with Patton even serving as a full-time cast member. But a source tells RadarOnline.com that this isn’t true at all!

“The show is NOT taping,” the source tells Radar, “and, as of now, has neither been renewed or cancelled. It is still in limbo, but I can definitely confirm that the show is NOT taping.”

In fact, the source even goes on to say that the four women are intentionally taking pictures together to spark rumors!

“These four women are intentionally showing up together at events in an attempt to make it seem like the show is back on and stay relevant,” the source continued, “but that’s just not the case. These appearances are all staged.”

Considering the photos might be “staged,” it’s questionable that Lea Black and Joanna Krupa are missing from the picture. The source notes, “That should tell you something right there.”

The idea of Patton returning to the show – should it return – as a full-time cast member would raise some questions, as the network downgraded her position last season.

“Marysol was only on the show for her mother, Elsa, and now that her mother can no longer tape the show, she definitely would not be brought back,” the source added.

Did Kim Zolciak Get A Plastic Surgery “Mommy Makeover”?

Wetpaint.com:
We all remember Kim Zolciak getting her fat zapped off as she ate pizza on an early season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, but except for enhancing the girls a bit, Kim seems to have largely stayed away from plastic surgery. Until now, that is!
When the trailer for Season 3 of Kim’s Bravo spin-off, Don’t Be Tardy, first came out several weeks ago, we noted that the mom of six seemed to be entertaining the idea of a nip and tuck. In the sneak peek, Kim is filmed getting her breasts examined by a doctor, followed by B-roll of someone holding breast implants. “Once I were to get my tummy and boobs done, I will kill a bitch if you were to get me pregnant,” Kim warns hubby Kroy in the scene.
It sure looks like Kimmie was ready for a little touchup, but during a pre-Don’t Be Tardy Twitter Q&A on July 10 the wigged wonder didn’t exactly confirm as much. When a fan tweeted Kim asking about the “status” of her plastic surgery, she responded, “I consulted with @lhochsteinmd on a mommy makeover you will have to watch and see if i go through with it.”
Hmm, color us intrigued! What’s even more interesting is that Kim mentioned consulting Dr. Leonard Hochstein, husband of Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein who just so happens to be nicknamed the “Boob God of Miami.” At least if Kim does go through with her mommy makeover on the show we’ll know she was in excellent hands within the Bravo family.

Lisa Hochstein Begins Demolition on 1920s Star Island Mansion: "I Can Do Anything in Heels"

Wetpaint.com:
Say goodbye to Lisa and Lenny Hochstein's Star Island home! The Real Housewives of Miami couple finally won their battle to tear down their 1920s mansion, and they have now begun to tear the mansion down.

The couple purchased the 1925 home in 2012, paying just under $8 million for the estate. As it turns out, the home itself is valued at just over a million dollars, while the beachside land itself is really what's valued so highly.

Lisa, 31, and Lenny decided to tear down the home and build a state-of-the-art pad, but it wasn't quite as easy as they hoped. Miami area preservationists fought tooth and nail to save the home, eventually losing an appeal to save the home and running out of money to further their cause.

On March 18, Lisa took to Twitter to let her fans know that demolition had begun. "I just took the first major chunk out of our star island home in my High heels," she wrote. "I can do anything in heels lol #demolition #bubbye."

Fight Over Demolition of Lisa Hochstein's Star Island Home Is Over

NBCMiami.com:
The fight over tearing down the Star Island mansion owned by "Real Housewives of Miami" star Lisa Hochstein and her husband is over after activists opposed to the demolition dropped their fight.

The Miami Design Preservation League announced Thursday that they were ending their legal efforts to preserve the home belonging to Hochstein and her husband, Lenny.

"Trying to make someone else's home historic against their wishes is not what we believe the city of Miami Beach stands for," Lenny Hochstein said.

Thanks to the agreement, Hochstein is a giant step closer to building a house of his dreams, a 9-bedroom, 20,000-square-foot mansion to replace the dilapidated structure that the MDPL considers historic.

Preservationists are appalled at the notion of tearing down the Star Island house, part of vanishing breed of South Florida homes that are being demolished and replaced with modern structures.

"It was featured in the New York Times in 1925, a story was done very recently in the New York Times. It has been acknowledged as one of the most important structures built by first registered architect of the State of Florida," preservationist Kent Robbins said.

The Hochsteins won approval last year from the Miami Beach City Commission to tear down the house but the MDPL appealed. The group gave up its appeal, saying it couldn't waste the resources on the fight.

"It would have spent a lot of time, a lot of effort, a lot of resources, but at the end of the day the house would've been demolished," Robbins said.

"We feel that we have been made an example of, we feel like at times we have been treated unfairly, but we are very grateful to the mayor and city commission," Lenny Hochstein said.

The two sides reached a deal that requires Hochstein to pay about $25,000 of the the MDPL's legal fees.

Lisa Hochstein Ends Her Friendship With Joanna Krupa

Fansshare.com:
Lisa Hochstein is well-known for her role on The Real Housewives of Miami. She is a woman of many talents. She is often found doing activism work and is also well-versed in dance and fitness. Lisa keeps herself very busy, and her life is followed closely by the media.

Lisa has been struggling to become pregnant, when she attended a reunion taping for The Real Housewives of Miami, trouble ensued between herself and fellow housewife Joanna Krupa. Joanna made a remark that if Lisa was truly concerned about her fertility issues then she should cut down on the amount of recreation she participates in. She also made the point that she should partake in better health practices by cutting back on drinking which deeply insulted Lisa, and drama ensued throughout the reunion as the two yelled at each other.

Joanna and Lisa were once best friends, and Joanna had previously accused Lisa of looking for drugs during Joanna’s wedding. Rumors began to circulate from this that Lisa was going to sue Joanna, which Lisa claimed that this was a not true. However, when she was asked for a second time, she responded that she couldn’t discuss it at the moment.

Whether or not Lisa Hochstein will be able to become pregnant is still yet to be revealed. However, it is quite clear that the former friendship between Lisa and Joanna is in ruins. If a lawsuit takes place, it is likely that it shall remain shattered for good.

Lisa Hochstein's Nude Video Leaks

Zap2It.com:
"Real Housewives of Miami" star Lisa Hochstein has been caught in a lie.

The reality TV star has denied that she was ever a porn star, but RadarOnline.com has just uncovered a nude video of a younger Hochstein -- Lisa Mackay at the time -- that has leaked on a prominent online adult site.

The video, which surfaced on PornHub.com, features Hochstein at 22-years old giving an interview about her modeling career and posing for Playboy. "I don't think there is anything wrong with [being] naked as I think a woman's body is beautiful," Hochstein says to the camera. "We are all born naked. Each to their own."

The video will no doubt reignite the debate of what constitutes soft porn that was sparked when Hochstein, married to Miami plastic surgeon Leonard Hochstein, filed a slander lawsuit for more than $15,000 earlier this year against a commenter who claimed she "was an escort who also did soft porn in Vegas."

What's more, the site has also uncovered fully topless photos, and some showing her bare butt, of Hochstein that are all over the Internet under her maiden name of Mackay.

Alexia Echevarria Says That Lisa Hochstein and Joanna Krupa Were Never Really Friends

Examiner.com:
“The Real Housewives of Miami” star Alexia Echevarria called it from the beginning; Lisa Hochstein and Joanna Krupa are not friends in real life. In fact, she didn’t think that there were any genuine feelings between the women at all. And during the reunion, low blows were made that made everyone question their friendship. According to a new Bravo blog published on Nov. 15, “The Real Housewives of Miami” star Alexia Echevarria is now revealing that the large fight between Lisa and Joanna was very uncomfortable to watch.

“There was one situation that dragged on for about 2 hours of this filming that made me very uncomfortable: Lisa and Joanna’s fighting. I feel that if you are really friends with someone that you don't go around making hurtful accusations about them. Obviously, what I predicted was correct: they were NEVER friends and just pretended to like each other for whatever reason. Not sure they will ever make up after this fight,” Alexia writes.

Of course, many of the friendships seemed to have been turned upside down this season. It seems like many of the friendships are only due to circumstance - them filming the show together.

Joanna Krupa Weds as Season 3 of 'Real Housewives of Miami' Wraps Up

Zap2It.com:
Another season in the Sunshine State comes to a close as "The Real Housewives of Miami" wrapped Season 3 on Monday (Nov. 4) with star Joanna Krupa finally tying the knot with fiance Romain Zago. With Joanna's ending fairly common knowledge, the suspense was left in seeing how things came together for the rest of the ladies.

First off, we must discuss that drive to San Diego from Las Vegas after the ladies "overslept." Has anything ever seen more fake in the history of reality TV? The women supposedly woke up at 11, couldn't find a single flight that would get them to southern California by sunset (a flight that's only 45 minutes long) and had to drive. They pulled over somewhere to make a dramatic phone call and then still arrived on time. There's no way this occurred in reality. Simply no way.

With that complaint out of the way, let's look at how each Wife ended the season:

Adriana De Moura: Adriana really came full circle this season, especially in regards to her relationship with Joanna. Seeing these two bitter enemies come together and enjoy each other's company was a delight, as was seeing Adriana apologize to Joanna's mom for her bad behavior. There may be hope for these two yet. Sadly, it doesn't look as if the same can be said for Adriana and Lea Black. (More on that later.)

Alexia Echevarria: Alexia's storyline this season was entirely centered on her family; particularly, the recovery of son Frankie after his devastating accident. It's been interesting and touching to watch throughout the season, but with the finale squarely focused on Joanna's wedding, it made her feel rather inconsequential. Though she was only away from her family for three days, all of her screen time was spent moping about being away from them, which only worked to highlight how little she really factored into season's events. And Peter's arrival was so beyond staged. Oof.

Lisa Hochstein: After all the drama spurred by Lisa's insane drinking in Vegas the night before was quickly swept under the rug, which was actually a pleasant surprise. It was refreshing to see a fight not turn into some sort of elongated grudge.  The youngest Wife was missing her husband while at Joanna's wedding and the producers tried their hardest to make it look like their marriage was on the rocks, but Lisa spent a majority of the episode beaming over the fact that she and Lenny had found a surrogate to help them have a child. One of this season's most fascinating, if sad, storylines has been watching Lisa struggle with her fertility issues, which is what made the final moment feel like such a punch to the gut. Lisa's season epitaph revealed that she and Lenny lost their surrogate, continuing their struggle. Here's hoping Season 4 arrives with better news for these two.

Joanna Krupa: So, Joanna and Romain made it official. Their vows were sweet (but the less said about the dresses, the better) and Joanna's sister Marta even made peace with her new husband. Between that and her detente with Adriana, Joanna's looking pretty drama-free heading into the reunion specials. Of course, that won't last. There's always an incendiary blog post or tweet to be bitter over.

Lea Black: Lastly, there's Lea. What's there to say about Lea? Throughout her three seasons on the show, Ms. Black has made her fair share of enemies, thanks to her caustic and, at times, off-putting ways. But no rift was more surprising than the one with her BFF Adriana. Lea spun it so that her anger at Adriana was based on the whole secret marriage brouhaha, but it was so clearly about her bruised ego after last season's reunion. Adriana was persona non grata to her because she didn't blindly defend Lea against Ana and Marysol's (mostly true) attack.

Certainly, Adriana didn't spend the season an innocent party, but her apology to Lea, and her willingness to try and rebuild, seemed sincere -- which is what makes Lea's actions in that spa scene on the day of the wedding feel so ice cold. After telling Adriana she wanted to try to make things better, Lea was so transparently bothered by the peace between her former friend and her new compatriot, Joanna, that she did an about face and shut Adriana out. Watching Adrianna cry and basically beg, to no avail, felt uncomfortably real and sad.

Lea always presents herself as the Wife above it all, too mature and put together for these ladies' nonsense. But in this instance, she made it clear that she's possibly the most childish one of all. Not a good look, Lea.

Spare Parts:

- Joanna and Romain haven't slept together again since their wedding night? One: What the what? Two: Why share that?

- Season 2 castoff Karent Sierra got in her final cameo at Joanna's wedding. Thankfully it didn't come with a soundbite.

- Lea's considering running for mayor of Miami on "the platform of cleaning the streets of its trash." HAHAHAHAHA. Maybe she can wrangle Flo Rida or John Rich to sing her campaign anthem.

- Can Marysol Patton return full-time for Season 4, should there be a Season 4? There wasn't nearly enough Mama Elsa this go-round. Here's hoping Elsa's healthy enough for some cameos next year.

- So, who won Season 3's War of the Weddings? Adriana's was wildly insane, what with the required costume change and the inexcusable delays, but Joanna's felt odd, taking place midday in San Diego's unforgiving summer heat.

Joanna Krupa Blames Lisa Hochstein's Fertility Struggles on Alleged Partying

EOnline.com:
The Real Housewives of Miami ladies seemed relatively tame in comparison to other casts—right up until their explosive reunion was filmed last week.
In fact, two sources tell E! News exclusively that things took a turn for the worse between former BFFs Joanna Krupa and Lisa Hochstein. At one point, Joanna alleged that Lisa's hard partying could've even played a role in her in struggles to start a family. Bravo had no comment on what happened during the Oct. 18 taping.
There have even been rumors that Lisa is considering taking legal action in response to Joanna's claims, although E! News has not independently confirmed these reports.
Former Real Housewives of Miami star Ana Quincoces seemed to allude to some legal strife, however, when she took to Twitter on Oct. 18 (when the reunion episode was filmed), writing, "Legal advice of the day: Reality 'stars' who threaten w/ defamation suits better make sure they r squeaky clean because discovery is a bitch."
Joanna tweeted "Brutal" after the show's taping, and the following day, Lisa seemingly weighed in on the drama as well, writing, "The craziness is over. Time to get back to my real life and focus on friends and family I love."
Fair enough. Make sure to tune in Monday, Oct. 28, at 10 p.m. for a new episode of Real Housewives of Miami.

Lisa Hochstein Can’t Find "Soft Porn" Slanderer

GossipExtra.com:
It’s been nearly a year since The Real Housewives of Miami’s Lisa Hochstein filed a slander lawsuit against someone who posted a web comment about Hochstein being an escort and doing “soft porn” – and Miami-Dade County court officers don’t seem to be able to find the alleged offender!

In October Hochstein, the wife of well-known Miami Beach plastic surgeon Lenny Hochstein, filed against one Jessica Lederman.

According to the lawsuit, Lederman wrote in the comment section of an “entertainment website” that Hochstein turned tricks in Las Vegas and did blue scenes on video.

Thing is, the lawsuit is practically at a stand-still as, records show, process servers can’t find Lederman!

In January, Hochstein told the Miami Herald’s Lesley Abravanel that the fact the Hochsteins had Lederman at parties at their house made the “betrayal” even worse.

Clearly, Lederman had it wrong.

Hochstein, her website points out, did three Playboy pictorials – and we all know that’s miles apart from soft porn!

Joanna Krupa Talks New Season of "Real Housewives of Miami", Says Lisa Hochstein Needs To 'Get a Job'

BaltimoreSun.com:
She may not be a household name yet, but Joanna Krupa's candor and charm is enough to lure almost anyone.

Krupa, 34, who's originally from Warsaw, Poland, modeled in America for years before becoming a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars." Krupa's June nuptials to longtime beau and nightclub owner Romain Zago will be featured in Season 3 of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Miami," which premieres at 9 p.m. Monday. If our chat with Krupa is any indication, you're not going to want to miss a single word she says this season.

I'm excited about Season 3. Are you?
I'm excited to see how the wedding came out because it was a moment I never wanted to end. I can't wait to relive it.

Is there a premiere event or do you all watch it at home?
We have a premiere party in Miami. But yeah, the premiere episode is always the nerve-racking one.

On a scale from 1-10, rate your inner bridezilla.
Shockingly, a 1.

You were just letting it go and enjoying the process of it?
I was, it's very overwhelming and stressful but I didn't let that effect me the way where I would become a crazy bridezilla. You know?

Of course. Because, hopefully, you only get one wedding.
Exactly!

Did you view your wedding as a challenge to outdo Adrianna?
For me, it was never a competition between her and I. I'm concentrating on my fairy tale and not worried about her. She was already married for five years but for me this is like a real first wedding.

What did you think about Marysol stepping down to a part-time housewife and about Karent's decision to leave the show all together?
Karent is one of my dearest friends and I love her. When I found out, I was really sad. I didn't think Marysol was such an important character last season. There were just too many women, you know?

In the "super trailer," you're fighting with Lisa. What happened?
She was getting too much into my business. I was like worry about yourself, you're not in the position I am. Get a job. Get pregnant. Whatever it is, just stay out of my life.

Without Karent or Lisa, who can we expect to see you form an alliance with in Season 3?
Lea and I became closer this season.

Lisa Hochstein Battles to Demolish Historic Mansion

ABCNews.com:
“Real Housewives of Miami” star Lisa Hochstein and her husband, a plastic surgeon renowned locally as “the Boob God,”  are locked in a fight with preservationists who want to keep the couple from knocking down their $8 million mansion on Star Island in Miami, Fla.

Hochstein and her husband, Dr. Leonard Hochstein, bought the historic waterfront mansion for $7.6 million but now they want to tear it down and rebuild.

“It is really not functional or safe. As a matter of fact, the engineers have said that the balconies can fall at any time,” Lenny Hochstein said as he led ABC News through the house’s battered interior.

The Hochsteins want to demolish the house and build a 20,000 sq ft home with all the modern amenities.

“It will have more modern plumbing, modern air conditioning. It will be functional for our family,” Hochstein said.

The couple breezed  through the preliminary stages of city approval for their renovations, but ran into a wall in the form of Miami Beach’s preservation society, which hopes to designate the “Gatsby”-era castle as a historic home, preventing it from being demolished.

An application for historic designation on the home was cleared by the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board and now awaits final approval.  For the Hochsteins, it’s a waiting game since they can’t make major improvements while the application is pending.

“Most homeowners of Miami Beach respect the history. This particular couple does not,” said Kent Harrison Robbins, attorney for Miami Design Preservation League. “This is a matter of preserving the historic resources of a community.”

When the couple hosted a gangster-style theme party last week, splattering fake blood all over the walls of the mansion, the Preservation League was not happy. Some would call the couple’s paint party desecration to such a historic home.

The home, Robbins said, was built in the 1920s and is the “crown jewel” of Miami Beach. Star Island is also home to celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell, P. Diddy and Gloria Estefan.

“This is not an $8 million house. The value of the property is in the land,” Hochstein insisted.

Hochstein said preservationists didn’t pay any attention to the home until he and his reality star wife purchased it.

“I don’t think there is any question that all of this was because my wife has notoriety,” he said.
