“Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Giuseppe “Joe” Gorga and his wife, Melissa, have taken legal action to evict a tenant renting their Montville mansion who they say owes them more than $60,000 in payments for his $20,000-a-month lease-purchase agreement.RELATED: Tenant complains about beavers, leaks in 'Real Housewives' Montville mansion
On Friday, a Superior Court judge in Morristown declared the tenant, Kai Patterson, in default, after he failed to get to court on time. The agreement calls for a total purchase price of $3.8 million for the 13,500-square-foot home with six bedrooms and seven baths, on 2.24 acres.
Patterson was late for court on Friday because on his way out of the house, he noticed the sprinkler system was “leaking water by the gallons,” according to a statement written by his representative.
Patterson, who had already paid the Gorgas’ unpaid water bill of $4,416, attempted to plug the “gushing water,” and that made him late, according to the statement.
Patterson said the dispute with the Bravo channel stars arose after he paid a $25,000 deposit meant to go for repairs on the house, but the Gorgas made no repairs. His representative’s statement listed numerous problems with the house, involving plumbing and heating issues and beavers living in crawl spaces.
His attorney has filed a motion to vacate the default, the statement said, adding that the parties expect to settle the lawsuit.
“They want their payments and I want repairs,” Patterson said.
