Though Real Housewives cast members come and go, we never forget our favorites. Real Housewives of New York was hit hard a few years back when three of its heavy-hitters — Bethenny Frankel, Jill Zarin, and Kelly Bensimon — departed the show at once. Then recently, rumors began swirling that Jill and Bethenny might be coming back to the Bravo series — which Bethenny immediately shot down. But that got us thinking… what about Kelly?RELATED: RHONY's Kelly Bensimon debuts Original Scent and offers perfume tips
Luckily, Wetpaint Entertainment was able to catch up exclusively with the original supermodel Housewife while she was promoting her new fragrance, In the Spirit Of, now available now at CakewalkStyleShop.com. She spilled all on her surprising return to RHoNY this season, playing yenta to Carole Radziwill, and whether Dina Lohan would be a good addition to the New York cast.
Wetpaint Entertainment: What made you decide to get into the fragrance industry?
Kelly Bensimon: I’ve been fascinated by the world of fragrance for a long time — since I was a model and traveling to France. After being on Housewives and all of the amazing recognition that the brand gave me, I decided to explore things that I wanted to share with the world. I named my fragrance In the Spirit Of because what you get out of it and what I get out of it is different because everyone has their own DNA. I wanted something alluring and expensive smelling that wasn’t overpowering.
You mentioned back in the fall that you’d be making a few appearances on this season of RHoNY. Can you tell us more?
LuAnn asked me to come on with her. She was like, ‘Will you walk in this fashion show for me and surprise all the ladies?’ And I obviously told her that I would. It was really fun. I got to meet Carole Radziwill, who’s incredibly smart, funny, and charming. She said she wanted to meet some guys to snuggle with, so I set her up on some dates.
Did she say how they went?
I don’t know! I didn’t ask her. I didn’t follow up.
RHoNJ’s Dina Manzo is going to be first departed Housewife to return to the series. Would you ever consider following suit?
I loved being on the show and meeting these women and observing their lives. The only way that I would actually ever consider coming back is if I could actually show my real life and be able to celebrate who I am, versus being in a scene with women I don’t know. Forcing an undercurrent makes the viewer really unsettled. Just let the cameras roll, let the women go for it. Why do you stop filming? When we were in Morocco, all of the best things that happened were after the cameras finished. Me sitting in my underwear drinking wine with LuAnn and Sonja crying? I mean, that’s like TV gold.
What are your thoughts on Lindsay Lohan telling Andy Cohen to put her mom, Dina Lohan, and Jill Zarin on RHoNY?
I’ve met Dina a couple of times with Jill. She seems really nice. I don’t know her well. I love Jill Zarin. I think she’s awesome spirited, and I think Dina could be fun. But I really think they need to showcase how awesome New York is.There are these amazing, type A personalities, and I think they need to tap into that. If they amp it up, then I’m coming on!
