Bethenny Frankel: I Wasn't Lying About Getting Lost At Sea

CNN.com:
We all know reality TV isn’t always real, but Bravo star Bethenny Frankel may have gone a little overboard recently with her tale of being lost at sea.

Tim Russell, the man who “rescued” Frankel and her husband Jason Hoppy, tells The Jewish Journal that the celebs were never in peril, and that the whole drama was staged.

Frankel told E! News of the adventure, claiming that she was lost at sea for 20 hours off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts last month.

"The captain had to call the Coast Guard and we were hit by a big wave,” Bethenny said. “It was very scary. It was traumatic. Absolutely traumatic."

But Russell says the Coast Guard was never involved. "Tim went out because he respects the water, and was unsure of the problem,” columnist Ilana Angel wrote of the incident, noting that another boat company wouldn’t go out, because there was no emergency. “Bethenny wasted everyone’s time, mocked the USCG and belittled Tim Russell."

"When Tim got there, he saw the boat was fine," the report continues. "There were 9 people on the boat. Bethenny, Jason, the therapist and a Bravo film crew of six. They did not need a tow as the boat was fine. They simply followed Tim and his wife back to the shore with no towing and a functioning GPS."

The former "Real Housewives" star is on the defensive, denying Russell’s claim via Twitter and Facebook. Frankel writes: "Let's review this past week's idiocies: 1.) I have a 'nice' coach 2.) I'm getting divorced 3.) I'm pregnant 4.) I lied about being lost at sea. Anything else?"

When a follower asked, "People on twitter are saying your boat rescue was not really true?" Frankel replied, "People are nuts and bored."

CNN reached out to Frankel's rep regarding the allegation but has yet to receive a comment.
