Joe Giudice Rejects Plea Deal On Phony License, Heading To Trial This Fall

NorthJersey.com:
Reality is fast closing in on Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” husband who on Monday chose to stand trial on charges he obtained a phony driver’s license rather than accept a plea bargain that would have sent him to prison.

Giudice, 42, accompanied by his attorney, Miles Feinstein, rejected the state’s plea offer of five years in state prison during a brief appearance in Superior Court in Paterson. He, instead, will stand ptrial on charges that he used his brother Pietro’s identity in an attempt to obtain a driver’s license at the Motor Vehicle Commission office in Paterson in June 2010.

“We will prepare for a trial,” Feinstein told Judge Greta Gooden Brown. The judge set a date of Oct. 1 for both sides to return to court to set the trial date.

Giudice, dressed in blue jeans and blue blazer, did not speak during the hearing. The only words he uttered were an apology to the judge for being late.

“I got lost in the mall,” he told the judge as he left the courtroom. The judge, apparently caught off-guard by the remark, did not respond.

Giudice explained after the hearing that he had gotten lost in the underground parking lot of the Center City Mall, which is located a block from the courthouse.

Authorities allege that Giudice obtained a driver’s license using marriage and birth certificates that belong to his brother. At the time, Giuseppe Giudice’s license had been suspended for Driving While Intoxicated after he flipped his pickup while driving in Montville in January 2010.

Prosecutors began to investigate the brothers when Pietro, 39, was pulled over by Lincoln Park Police. When the police officer ran Pietro’s information through a dashboard computer, the search produced Giuseppe’s photograph, authorities said.

  4. It's hilarious that the judge didn't respond to his (no doubt mumbled) excuse for being late. If we could see a thought bubble above he head, I bet it says, "Whatever, lowlife. Sit your ass down."

  5. A stall tactic to delay the inevitable. This might go to trial in the second half of 2013, if the world is still here.
