Shannon Beador Talks Season 9 of RHOC and Passing Vicki Gunvalson’s Test

Wetpaint.com:
While we’re devoted fans to all of the Real Housewives franchises, there’s just nothing like the original: Real Housewives of Orange County. So the fact that the SoCal bombshells are back on April 14 — with two new Housewives in tow! — is almost too much to handle.

If you’ve caught any of the promos for RHOC Season 9, you probably noticed one woman at the center of a lot of the drama: newbie Shannon Beador. This appropriately blonde gal is a straight-shooter, and with her, what you see is what you get.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Shannon and she spilled on how she approached the show as a super-fan, how she won over OC OG Vicki Gunvalson, and what that face-off with Heather Dubrow was all about.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Welcome to the show! What made you decide to join RHOC?
I had the same home builder that Heather Dubrow has. I thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have snippets of my life filmed and be able to watch them back. You’re able to see what you do well and what you need to improve on. How often do people get the chance to watch their lives played back to them?

Did you watch the series before coming on?
I had. I started watching in Season 4, and I’ve been a diehard fan ever since then. But very quickly — and on purpose — I separated myself from being a viewer and being on the show. There was one person that I thought I would never get along with, but by having that open mind, I clicked instantly with her when I met her.

Was there any divide between the new girls and the three veterans?
I started the show prior to Lizzie Rovsek and [new “Friend of the Housewives”] Danielle Gregorio, so we’d been filming for a couple of months already. I’d been able to bond with the three veterans, so there definitely wasn’t a newbie divide. I felt welcomed by all the women.

It appears in the trailer that you and Vicki develop a friendship this season. Was there any jealousy that came about with her existing friends, Tamra Barney and Heather?
Vicki and I definitely get along. I didn’t honestly think of it that way, as I’m not the type to compete in friendships. Vicki’s a very busy woman, as well, so she’s not going to sit on the phone and chitchat with me five times a day, either. Vicki doesn’t like change; she says that all the time on the show. So she has little tests for people. I don’t know if there was clearly a test for me, but looking back I think there’s things she did to see how I would react. I think I clearly passed because we became friendly right after.

It looks like there’s an incident that goes down between you and Heather this season. Can you tell us a little more about that?
I had portrayed myself as my true, uncensored, and honest person. If the cameras were rolling right now, you would see no difference in my character. I’m not insinuating this about Heather, but I think there are certain people on the show — from time to time, not always — that vacillate between two different types of people. People can create stories in their minds and convince themselves that that really happened, but the cameras don’t lie. I don’t like to argue with women, but if somebody tries to betray me or someone in my family, or tries to make me believe that I did something I didn’t do, I will stand up for myself.

Real Housewives of Orange County premieres Tuesday, April 14, at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

  1. And that test would be crapping out 24k gold bars on demand.
