"Now it's time to focus our energy on helping the survivors and victims of cancer," Edmonds, 31, the wife of baseball player Jim Edmonds, told Entertainment Tonight. "There is so much work to be done to help those suffering. It wasn't easy exposing a lie about something that is so important to so many of us. It is time for all of us to move on and get to work in a positive way to help in the fight."
A rep for City of Hope hospital confirmed to Us Weekly on Tuesday, Nov. 10, that there was never a patient by the name of "David Brooks Ayers" treated at its cancer facility in Duarte, Calif. Ayers came forward one day later and confessed to fabricating the documents.
"Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to 'prove' to the world that I, in fact, have cancer," Ayers told E! News on Nov. 11. "What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki's knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest. I never intended to disclose my actual medical records or details about my private and personal medical history, thus the rationalization of presenting documents that weren't true simply for a 'storyline' for the show."
