Shockya.com:
With rumors that Season Eight of “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” ShockYa has some scoop on the newest addition to show, actress Heather Dubrow, wife to famed plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow. Dubrow was able to talk with ShockYa about her time on the show, the opportunities she’s gained from being a part of the show (such as her guest starring spot on Hot in Cleveland earlier this month) and more.
This season of “Real Housewives of Orange County” is over for right now; how have you liked being on the show?
Well, it’s interesting…I had no idea what I was in for when I signed up for the show, so I have to say one of the producers said to me, ‘You’ll like 80 percent of it and you won’t like 20 percent of it,’ and that was pretty [true.]
What was the 20 percent you didn’t like?
Um, I think, you know, some comments I made about Alexis [Bellino] weren’t very kind. Like, hearing what people said about me–that wasn’t nice. That sort of stuff was hard to swallow.
Aside from the notoriety that comes from being on a reality show, what kind of positives did you get out of the experience?
I think that I try to work [from] the old adage that work begets work and exposure begets exposure. Obviously, I’m from a scripted television background. So for me, it’s been great to remind people that I’m out there and…I’ve gotten a lot of nice opportunities from it. I’ve done a lot of radio work and I’m doing a guest lead on Hot in Cleveland…”
I’ve read that you’ve had growing pains, so to speak, when you had to move away from the east coast to the west coast. Have you gotten used to life on the west coast, or do you still pine for the east?
Well, I think I’ll always consider myself a New Yorker, but I’ve been out here for over 20 years now. What was difficult for me was that it was a very difficult transition to move from New York to LA, but then I was for many years, and then moving from LA to Orange County was very difficult. I didn’t really know anyone, it was really suburban, so that was a hard transition. But now, I’ve made such a beautiful life here for me, my husband and the kids, that I can’t imagine this point in my life living anywhere else.
Fans got to know you and your husband very well on the show, but what is one thing that your fans don’t know about you that they wouldn’t expect?
I would say that–although my friends all know this about me–is that I’m very silly and funny. On the show, I think I come off very reserved and buttoned-up and controlling. And I’m controlling, that’s true–that’s definitely an aspect of my personality. I’m very organized–you know you have to be with this many children–but I’m very silly with my children and my husband and my friends consider me the entertainment at times. But I think that coming onto a show like this, I was so nervous about who these girls were and what they were going to say to me, what they were going to do, how was my husband going to act. I was so nervous about it for most of the season that I don’t think that part of my personality came through.
Do you expect to return for Season Eight?
Bravo hasn’t even announced a formal pick-up for next season, but I would say that if they move forward, I think we’ve had enough of a positive experience that I would probably be willing to do it again.RELATED: 'Real Housewives of Orange County': Heather Dubrow appears on 'Hot in Cleveland'
